System Research in Energy| Summary: | Ensuring the reliable financing of the decommissioning of nuclear power units is essential for the sustainable operation and development of the nuclear power sector in each country that has nuclear power plants (NPPs), in particular, in Ukraine. To efficiently solve problems of financing of the decommissioning, it is necessary firstly to determine the necessary funding for the mentioned works taking the national specificity into account and, secondly, to create a reliable system of reservation of funds with risk minimization as for their adequacy with regard for the uncertainty of the future costs of required works, the effects of inflation, exchange rate risk, etc. The article presents a profound analysis and recommendations for the reservation of financial resources for decommissioning the domestic NPPs in view of the regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency and international practices. The research of two scenarios of the development of nuclear power engineering shows the necessary volume of financial resources for decommissioning the NPPs. The necessary additional charge to the current tariff in Ukraine on electricity from NPPs is calculated. This will allow one to solve the problem of their decommissioning and to ensure the sustainable development of the electricity sector. |
