The challenges of the implementation of harmonized standards for the emission of air pollutants in the United power system of Ukraine (UPSU) in the context of the possibility of its work jointly with the union of the power systems of European countries are discussed. The methodological approaches to the evaluation of the efficiency and the scope of implementations of the measures to ensure their realization are described. The scope of implementation of the measures is evaluated, provided the objects of UPSU will meet the harmonized standards of air pollutant emissions till 2018.The results obtained show that it is practically impossible to ensure the compliance with the EC standards for air pollutant emissions the during this period of time due to the current technical and ecological states of the available facilities, significant amounts of required investments, and resource constraints. Therefore, it is proposed to extend the term of the implementation of harmonized emission standards till 2030 on the basis of the development of the National plan aimed at the reduction of emissions, which foresees a gradual decrease of the emissions of Ukraine’s thermal power plants to the relevant standards.
