Zusammenfassung:Ukraine declared the goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 2020 by 20% relative to the base year 1990. Under these conditions, one of the major challenges facing the Ukrainian energy sector is the creation of conditions for the covering energy resources demand of the country along with strict compliance to requirements on minimization of the negative impact on the environment, taking into account the international obligations of the country. The article describes the results of forecasting greenhouse gas emissions from Ukrainian energy sector facilities in second commitment period of Kyoto Protocol and by 2030, which were executed using mathematical, software and information tools created at the Institute of General Energy National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The analysis of economically feasible ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sectors was made.Comprehensive study of GHG emission forecasts are performed for the scenarios of energy sector development taken from «The project to update Ukraine's Energy Strategy 2030» and for amended scenario of electric power industry development. It was determined that adoption of more stringent commitments by Ukraine – reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 50% by 2050, could adversely affect the economic development of the country, such commitments will be hard to meet if economic growth will occur.
