Summary:We discuss the possibilities of using thermal secondary energy resources, i.e., the sensible heat of the effluent gases of thermal-power and thermal-technological facilities. Air recuperation does not enable one to use completely the sensible heat of combustion products, and air heating is in some cases inadmissible. Therefore, the only actual way of using the heat of combustion products is connected with thermochemical recuperation, based on the endothermal reaction of fuel with the corresponding oxidizer. In addition, this method enables one to decrease the emission of harmful substances (in particular, nitrogen oxides) to the atmosphere.We have developed a method of determining the equilibrium composition of a reacting gas mixture, based on the search for the minimum of total free energy of the system under study. For this purpose, we use the most universal and simple in realization method of steep descent with quadratic approximation. We have obtained a system of linear algebraic equations for Lagrange multipliers and dimensionless total number of moles in the system. We discuss the specific features of realization of the developed method with regard for the properties of the function describing the total free energy of the system. We also present an example of calculation of the equilibrium composition of methane – combustion products mixture.
