The effective functioning of the gas transmission system (GTS) of Ukraine greatly depends on the processes that occur in the world natural gas markets. This article gives an analysis of the processes that led to the conclusion that the main factors of integration of regional gas markets is the development of LNG trade, improving technology and expanding the geography of unconventional gas production.It is shown that the most important factors affecting the operational efficiency of the Ukrainian gas transportation system is the amount of gas and their transportation routes. They are formed under the influence of the mutual combination of economic, environmental and technological factors, which are defined as the state of the world and European economies, and political decisions of the European Union and the Russian Federation.Results generated representative scenarios of the Ukrainian GTS download for the period until 2040. It is shown that for all scenarios its functioning in the future will be less effective, and the reconstruction of an existing circuit structure makes no economic sense until the problem to ensure the volume and direction of natural gas transit through the territory of Ukraine is solved.
