Summary:According to the forecast of the World Energy Committee, the share of heating and hot water supply from the renewable energy sources in advanced countries can reach 75% in 2020. The heat supply strategy is focused on the transition from traditional combustion of fossil fuels to the use of energy-efficient technologies, including geothermal.For Ukraine, taking into account its limited resources of fossil fuels, the low efficiency of most old heating boilers, and the high degree of environmental pollution, the development of geothermal energy is extremely relevant and promising. There are all prerequisites for this: a sufficient resource base, scientific potential, legislation on the development of geothermal projects, and benefits for the production of geothermal energy.In the period from 1998 to 2003, the Institute of Technical Thermophysics (ITTP) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine developed a number of projects for the development of geothermal heat supply in different regions of the country with different geological and geothermal conditions, for different installed capacities, based on wells of different depths (re-drilled and restored). According to the conclusion of experts, both domestic and foreign, these projects were recognized as technically feasible but economically uncompetitive due to the low tariffs for heat and electricity and the payback period of capital investments from 13 to 30 years.The economic indicators were adapted to the conditions of 2020 in terms of prices for materials, services, tariffs, while maintaining all technical parameters for 4 projects: 1. "Creation of geothermal heat supply system in Mostysk, Lviv region, Ukraine and Przemyśl, Poland". Developed at the Institute of Technical Thermophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine together with Local energy and hot water supply Co Ltd, Przemyśl, Republic of Poland, 2003; 2. "Creation of Monastyryshche geothermal district heating plant". Developed at the Institute of Technical Thermophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 2001 [ITTP report on "Environmentally friendly geothermal energy of Ukraine", 2001]; 3. "Geothermal technological complex in the village of Yantarnoye (Crimea)". Developed at the Institute of Technical Thermophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in collaboration with Houe & Olsen A / S Denmark, the Danish Energy Agency and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, 2003; 4. "Technical and economic study of the feasibility of using heat pumps in geothermal heat supply systems using thermal waters of the Transcarpathian region". Developed at the Institute of Technical Thermophysics of the NAS of Ukraine, 1998.The comparative analysis showed that under the conditions of 2020, the considered projects will be implemented with high economic benefit.The development of geothermal energy in Ukraine, in particular, first of all, the widespread introduction of geothermal heating systems requires detailed information on geothermal fields, attracting state-of-the-art technologies and the best international practices, and sufficient funding from both the state and private investors.
