International Seabed Authority, international, seabed area, reserved areas Міжнародний орган з морського дна, Міжнародний район морського дна, зарезервовані райони The article considers the status of the International Seabed Authority and the current state of activity in the international seabed area for the purpose of scientific research and exploration of deep-sea mineral resources of the oceans. Attention is paid to the actions of the International Seabed Authority in support of the United Nations Decade for Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. A retrospective of the relationship between Ukraine and the International Seabed Authority was described, and the prospects for Ukraine’s further participation in the International Seabed Authority were considered. Proposed ways for Ukraine to use the potential of the International Seabed Authority to strengthen the national security of the State, ensure its political, socio-economic and environmental interests, and accelerate economic reforms. In the future, Ukraine will be able to claim a portion of the international seabed area only on the condition that appropriate deep-sea studies are carried out. У статті розглянуто статус Міжнародного органу з морського дна та сучасний стан діяльності уМіжнародному районі морського дна з метою наукового дослідження й розвідки глибоководнихмінеральних ресурсів океанів. Висвітлено дії Міжнародного органу з морського дна на підтримкуДесятиліття Організації Об’єднаних Націй, присвяченого науці про океан в інтересах сталого розвитку.Описано ретроспективу взаємовідносин України та Міжнародного органу з морського дна, атакож розглянуто перспективи подальшої участі України в Міжнародному органі з морського дна.Запропоновано шляхи використання Україною потенційних можливостей Міжнародного органу з морського дна задля зміцнення національної безпеки держави, забезпечення її політичних, соціально-економічних та екологічних інтересів, прискорення економічних реформ. У майбутньому Україна зможе претендувати на ділянку Міжнародного району морського днатільки за умови проведення відповідних морських глибоководних наукових досліджень.
