The history of the issue is described. There are presented: mechanism of the contribution of the Decade to societal outcomes, Decade overarching goals and Decade strategic objectives as well as priority research anddevelopment areas.Some organizational aspects of the Decade preparatory stage are considered. It is given a commentary on the necessity to form a long-term strategy for ocean science development in Ukraine. У статті запропоновано дайджест документа "Переглянута дорожня карта для Десятиліття Організації Об’єднаних Націй, присвяченого науці про океан в інтересах сталого розвитку", підготовленого Міжурядовою океанографічною комісією ЮНЕСКО. Описано історію питання. Представлено механізм орієнтації Десятиліття на досягнення соціально значущих результатів, всеосяжні цілі та стратегічні завдання Десятиліття, а також пріоритетні галузі наукових досліджень і розробок.Розглянуто деякі організаційні аспекти підготовчого етапу Десятиліття. Дано коментар щодо необхідності формування стратегії розвитку науки про океан в Україні на довгостроковий період.
