Предложен плазменно-капельный механизм образования смерча – интенсивного атмосферного вихря, вращающегося под грозовым облаком. Смерч рассматривается как контролируемый прилипанием газовый разряд, создаваемый в атмосфере сильным облачным зарядом в присутствии геомагнитного поля. Построена общая теория атмосферно-облачного разряда, дан расчет электрической и магнитной структуры плазмы вихря под круглым бесконечно тонким заряженным диском.
