Summary:Ways of contributing to solving the problem of reducing emissions of hazardous substances, in particular mercury, during stationary burning of fuel in different countries of the world at the legislative level are considered. In connection with the likely introduction of international requirements for mercury emissions in the near future, it is indicated the need to take into account the cost of means to reduce mercury emissions during the selection of fuel burning technologies during the modernization of existing power units of TPPs of Ukraine and making decisions about the construction of new ones.
