Дослідження напружено-деформаційного стану (НДС) земної кори в сучасній світовій геотектоніці посідають пріоритетне місце, тому що відомості про НДС є головним джерелом пізнання геологічної будови та еволюції геодинамічних режимів геоструктур різного масштабу й генезису. Особливо важливою є їхня роль під час вивчення континентальних внутрішньоплитних геоструктур-грабенів і рифтів, до яких належить більшість нафтогазоносних басейнів (НГБ) світу. На прикладі Дніпровсько-Донецького палеорифту продемонстровано актуальність та прикладне значення тектонофізичних досліджень з діагностики типів тектонічних рухів, реконструкцій полів тектонічних напруг гірських порід для прогнозування новітніх зон розтягу, які контролюють шляхи міграції вуглеводнів та зони промислового нафтогазонакопичення, що характеризуються високою щільністю промислових об'єктів та великими поверхами нафтогазоносності в надрах НГБ.
