Разглянуто коло завдань досліджень на кожному етапі, виникаючі при їх вирішенні основні труднощі і суперечності, визначені їх причини і шляхи подолання. Детально охарактеризований стан палеовулканологічних досліджень на сучасному етапі, запропоновано ряд заходів по підвищенню їх якості та обґрунтованості.
