Taxonomic composition of the fossils and their distribution in time and space is the basis not only for stratigraphic schemes, but also to analyze the evolution, to construct taxas’ phylogenetic trees (cladograms). However, the principles of fossils classification and their value for solving practical problems of geology and theoretical issues about the directions and mechanisms of evolution is the debated.   Викопні рештки організмів слугують матеріальним підґрунтям біостратиграфії. Таксономічний склад скам’янілостей, їх розподіл у часі й просторі є підставою не лише для стратиграфічних схем, а й для аналізу еволюції, побудови філогенетичних дерев (кладограм) таксонів.
