Description
Summary:The paper is dedicated to the study of multi-dimensional stochasticmodel on the hypothesis that wind velocity vector may becharacterized by the bivariate normal distribution featuring correlatablezonal and meridional components. Half-hourly windspeed and wind direction readings obtained from five UkrainianAeronautical Meteorological Stations (civil) as initial data. Estimatesof the moments of the distribution, correlation coefficient forwind vector components, and numerical characteristics of theconcentration ellipse was obtained as applied to each studyregion. The concentration ellipses were described as applied toeach Aeronautical Meteorological Station (civil) with a probabilityof 99%, 95%, and 70%. The matching of the directions of theprincipal axes of the concentration ellipses and the directions ofrock massifs in Lviv and Simferopol regions were confirmed. It isshown that the presence of rock massifs is a necessary conditionfor the significant correlation between the components of wind velocityvector, while the presence of coastline provides the ellipticity ofdistribution density without any significant correlation.
