Vidnovluvana energetikaРезюме: | The purpose of the article is to analyze the relation between wind speed data at weather stations (WS) in Ukraine and satellite data according to their geographic coordinates, presented on the NASA POWER portal; find out the possibility of using reanalysis data for wind energy calculations.
Correlations and modeling errors were analyzed for a set of 70 WS and corresponding to their coordinates time series of hourly wind speed data of MERRA-2 reanalysis database.
It has been established that the use of reanalysis data is appropriate for preliminary average wind speed and wind energy potential assessment for the regions with average wind speeds higher than 3.5 m/s and characterized by a flat topography and the absence of landscape elements that can distort the wind pattern. For such regions, the error of the wind speed modeling is 0.5 m/s (13.95%), the relative error of average annual electricity production and capacity factor calculating is equal to 17.5%. The reanalysis data show higher wind speed values for all WS' except high-mountain ones, for which the simulated values are underestimated. In general, higher wind speeds correspond to lower relative error of the calculations values and higher correlation coefficients values of the average daily and average monthly wind speed values (up to 0.95).
However, the use of reanalysis data for the development of investment projects and forecasting of WPP production is possible only after preliminary calibration and verification for each specific case.
