Vidnovluvana energetikaРезюме: | The main results of reports at the hydropower section regarding water desalination on an industrial scale are summarized. The relevance of the task of seawater desalination in Ukraine is determined by the country's participation in the implementation of the European program "2x40 GW Green Hydrogen Initiative", which provides for the construction of 10 GW of electrolyser capacity on its territory for the production of "green" hydrogen with power supply from offshore and coastal wind and solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 40 GW. The expected volume of hydrogen production is 1.65 million tons per year, which will require consumption of prepared fresh water of at least 24 million m3/year. One of the alternative options for supplying fresh water for the operation of electrolyzers in this project is to use desalinated sea water. The purpose of the publication is to analyze quantitative indicators of modern world achievements in industrial technologies for desalination of sea and brackish water, which can serve as indicators for determining the priority of using a specific technology to solve similar problems in our country. The achievable results of the implementation of the main four industrial technologies are considered, the retrospective trends and quantitative values at the end of 2023 of the volume and cost of water production, the distribution of capital and operating costs for production, the current state of the capital market and its growth rates for the next decade, the main participants of the equipment market and design solutions of desalination plants. Interrelated factors of technology selection, plant size and location, water and electricity needs, environmental regulation regimes regarding emissions, brine disposal, appropriate design decision are defined as the main factors of water desalination costs.
