Summary:The purpose of this article is to analyze the electrical characteristics of a photovoltaic module with a solar radiation concentrator. The object of the study is a simple commercially available photovoltaic module with the simplest solar radiation concentrator without additional cooling systems, which makes this solution technically simple and commercially attractive. The task is to evaluate the technical feasibility of such a solution. The study provides comparative characteristics of the dependence of power on voltage and monthly electricity generation of the mentioned concentrator system compared to a traditional solution – a set of photovoltaic modules connected in series. To assess the impact of the concentrator itself on the characteristics of the module, a comparison with a certain idealized solution is also made. As a conclusion, the feasibility of solar energy concentrators with conventional photovoltaic modules is demonstrated, since despite a 35% drop in electricity generation per unit area, the cost of such a solution is expected to be lower, because one module with a concentrator will be able to generate as much energy as 8 modules without radiation concentration.
