Zusammenfassung:The article provides a review of publications related to the historical and contemporary experience of using alternative energy sources in Ukraine, with an emphasis on their application under conditions of limited or absent centralized energy supply. It is shown that in emergencies caused by military actions, terrorist threats, or natural disasters, the traditional power system may suffer severe damage or a complete shutdown. Under such circumstances, alternative energy sources—particularly solar and wind energy—may become the only available means of electricity supply for individual households, critical infrastructure, or social facilities. The study substantiates the feasibility of using small-capacity wind and solar installations for autonomous power supply in rural or sparsely populated areas. It is noted that the efficiency of such sources is highly sensitive to geographic location, terrain, climatic conditions, and diurnal and seasonal variations of natural energy flows. Existing reference data are generally focused on large-scale energy projects and are insufficient for accurate assessments of technical potential for local applications. The paper presents an example of analysing climatic factors that influence the technically achievable potential for using small wind and solar installations in a specific area of the Kharkiv region, taking into account local meteorological observations and the daily and seasonal variations of natural energy resources. The proposed approach to analysis and the results can be used to assess the technically achievable potential for deploying small wind and solar installations in similar regions.
