Nowadays, in conditions of competition and large volumes of information sources, an abstract journal must meet a large number of requirements that ensure high-quality content and convenient information search, and this also creates conditions for conducting scientometric research. The publication of an abstract journal allows for the search, selection and systematization of information sources, compensates for the consequences of information dispersion, and also establishes a single scientific and technical terminology and rubric. The requirements for the presentation of information in an abstract journal are increasing and its quality depends on many factors: the efficiency and completeness of the presentation of information, the quality of the abstracts. For electronic publications, there should also be a convenient search engine. Journals should be aimed at scientists and specialists who need specific, not general, information. The question of launching a Ukrainian abstract journal (UАJ) arose due to the fact that only a small proportion of publications by Ukrainian scientists were included in global databases of abstract information. The creation of the Ukrainian abstract journal "Dzherelo" and the abstract database "Ukrainika Naukova" is considered and the path traveled over the 30 years of its existence is highlighted. The significance of the abstract journal "Dzherelo" and the abstract database "Ukrainika Naukova" is shown. The prospects for the development and improvement of the national system of abstracting are highlighted. The Ukrainian аbstract journal "Dzherelo" is a periodical scientific and informational publication designed to promptly reflect the content of Ukrainian scientific literature in all fields of knowledge. The UАJ "Dzherelo" and the database "Ukrainika Naukova" were created with the aim of accumulating scientific information from all fields of knowledge, ensuring free access and search for information, preparing electronic versions of abstract publications, organizing archival preservation of the database fund on CDs. For 30 years, the UАJ "Dzherelo" has been a national treasure of Ukraine, where a large information array of data has been accumulated for conducting fundamental and applied scientific research works by scientists, specialists in various fields, postgraduate students and students.
