Description
Summary:Analysis of porous structure of a variety of activated carbons, ACs, produced from natural raw materials or polymers has been carried out using SEM, AFM, TEM, adsorption, DSC and TG/DTA methods. Despite great porosity and high specific surface area, ACs poorly adsorb water from air. However, larger amounts of water fill a major portion (but incompletely) of the pore volume of ACs immersed in liquid water or wetted by liquid water but the heat of immersion in water is much smaller than that for decane. The pore size distributions (PSD) calculated from the adsorption and DSC data are in agreement with the PSD based on the analysis of HRTEM images.
