Description
Summary:This review is devoted to the solutions of C60 fullerene. Fullerenes are inclined to aggregate formation not only in water but also in ‘poor’ and even in ‘good’ organic solvents. For some reasons, the single C60 molecule can be considered as a colloidal (sub-colloidal) particle. Therefore, not only aqueous but practically any solution of fullerene possess colloidal properties. The methods of preparation of water-soluble fullerenes, mainly of non-modified C60, are considered. With the C60 hydrosols, all the classical colloid-chemical effects, typical for lyophobic dispersions, can be observed. The nature of the negative charge of the particles and the reasons for their aggregative stability are discussed.
