Description
Summary:In the framework of the morpho-functional ecology of aquatic vegetation trend, the features of approaches formulated by two schools, namely Laboratory of Ecological Metabolism (LEM) of IBSS headed by Dr. K. M. Khailov, and algae school of OB IBSS headed by Dr. G. G. Minicheva (OB) are analyzed. The similarities and differences in methods of measurement and calculation of specific and total surfaces of phytosystems at different levels of organization are discussed. It has been concluded to use a common methodological principle based on the morpho-functional properties of each level of hierarchical organization of vegetative systems. It has been shown that differences occurring in the calculations of surface parameters are not connected with methodical discrepancies but with the specifics of the objectives of two schools as: for LEM – the study of metabolic processes in the aquatic ecosystems, and for OB – broader possibilities of hydroecological methods of evaluation of phytobenthos and phytoplankton by using morpho-functional parameters. The authors consider that the use of formulas extracted from complete algorithm models to illustrate erroneous results is not correct. Basically, the OB method shows new possibilities for using of surface parameters for quantitative prediction of species structure of communities and qualitative evaluation of aquatic environment. The breadth of the objectives pursued by two schools and the occurring methodical divergences are only natural in the studying process of the diversebranches of morpho-functional trend that emphasize the intense development of current trends.
