Description
Summary:The article explores the representation of war in the most important temporal constructions starting from the epoch of ancient historiography to the present. It is accented that war was taking up a specific place in all projections and constructions of historical time because it generated extensive transformations of all belligerent societies. It is revealed that classical historiography has proposed diversified interpretation of war as a selection of didactic examples for human ratio; a cult of heroism and pantheon of glory; a rupture of evolutional course or gradual history movement, or, conversely, acceleration in its rate in the context of factor analysis; a blood price the society has to pay for ceaseless progress, etc. It is emphasized that from the perspective of non-classical historiography the war was presented as one of the challenges entailing growth or, conversely, decline of civilization; cumulative impetus outlining the historical development rhythmics; traumatic experience of human existence; total socio-cultural catastrophe, producing effect of the world-view crisis and mass trauma to the entire society. The opinion is substantiated that current Russo-Ukrainian war shall be represented as the war with Russia for Independence of Ukraine. Attention is focused on national, anticolonial, existential senses and historical meanings of the war as the result of the centuries-old aspirations for Liberation and Independence of Ukraine.
