Description
Summary:Due to significant changes in the electricity industry which are related to the liberalization and the globalization of energy markets, the necessity to develop new models of energy markets which should consider new conditions of their functioning has appeared. The analytical overview of the latest foreign papers on the modeling of electricity markets is performed. As a result, three major trends are separated: the optimization models of a single firm and the imitation and equilibrium models of electricity markets. A classification of the mentioned models by their most significant parameters is presented. The economic computable equilibrium model LIBEMOD for the Western European electricity markets is considered. The expediency to use different types of models for various tasks is explained, and their advantages and drawbacks are outlined. The concepts underlying the assumptions made in models, particularly the Cournot equilibrium concept, are described. Some differences in the mathematical structures of the classes of models are discussed.
